This September, I will be releasing my debut children’s/YA novel—a powerful coming-of-age story rooted in Black British culture in West London. The book reflects many of the experiences, challenges, and untapped talents I see every day in the young people I work with as a tutor.
About the Story
Caleb is fifteen, bored in school and far smarter than most people realise. Growing up in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, he feels trapped by lessons that don’t challenge him and expectations that underestimate his potential. When his childhood friend Jamie becomes involved with a dangerous gang in nearby White City, Caleb is drawn into a world where loyalty, anger, and reputation matter more than consequences.
As his behaviour spirals, a devastating loss forces Caleb to face who he is becoming. Anchored by the memory of his Grandad—a Windrush generation survivor who taught him pride, history, and resilience—and supported by an English teacher who recognises his talent, Caleb discovers that writing may be his way forward.
This is a story about identity, ambition, mentorship, and finding your voice before it’s silenced.
